The Distance Education Council in New Delhi, under immense pressure from the Patna University, on Thursday, recognized the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) degree saying those who had earned it were fully qualified to enter into any competitive exam or apply for any state or federal job.
The announcement came soon after Patna University Vice Chancellor Dr. Shyam Lal held a meeting with the authorities in New Delhi and requested him to accord full recognition to the degrees issued by the DDE, Patna University.
It may be recalled that some of the DDE graduates were earlier banned by some exam committees that led to an all-out protest by the Patna University students.
Meanwhile, dozens of angry students gathered outside the Patna University office and burnt the effigy of the Vice Chancellor while demanding the removal of those teachers who, they said, attacked protesting students at Patna College campus on Wednesday.
"The Wednesday incident has tarnished the sanctimonious relationship between a teacher and a pupil and such rogue teachers should be kicked out of the university without any delay," said National Students Union of India leader Varun Sharma.
