Patna: June 19, 2008

PU Employees' Strike Called off. Photo by Anupam SinghMembers of the Patna University Employees' Union on Thursday called off their nearly two-week long strike after the university officials agreed to all 22 of their demands following a meeting of the two warring parties despite strong protests by the agitating employees throughout the day.

With the protestors standing in heavy rain and chanting anti-administration slogans, Patna University officials invited them to have a talk with them in the hope of breaking the deadlock that had disrupted the normal functioning of the university.

Union leaders including general secretary Abdul Manan, vice president Mohammed Kaisar, joint secretary Trilokinath Mehta and many others participated in the meeting and agreed to call of their strike with certain reservations saying they were counting on the university officials to keep their promises and any violation of it would result in an indefinite strike that would literally cripple the entire functioning of the university.
