CM Reviews Five-year Plan; Outlines Growth Roadmap

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his meeting with the state's top bureaucrats on Friday to review Bihar's preparation for the 11th Five-year Plan, said that an estimated 50 lakh people in the state would be provided employment in the next five years while there would be an increase of 8.5% in the state's Gross Domestic Product.
Kumar said that in the next 5 years, the public investment would be to the tune of Rs. 60,631 crore while private investment is estimated to be roughly Rs. 1,08, 283 crore.
Calling the year 2008 as the year of agriculture, the Chief Minister said the government was working on giving a boost to the agriculture by developing a road map entailing over Rs. 6,000 crore and expected to earn a growth of 11 percent in the industrial sector.
The Chief Minister also talked about 21-point checkpoints that would be used to monitor developments in various sectors.
Besides several key officials, the meeting was also attended by Planning and Development Minister Sudha Srivastava, Development Commissioner S. Vijay Raghawan and the chief secretaries of various departments.
