NDA Government Misleading Bihar; Says NCP Leader
Patna: June 20, 2008
Maharashtra minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujwal, during his address at the party workers' meet in Patna on Friday, ripped the NDA government in Bihar accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of creating a 'smokescreen of development when the state had actually gone from bad to worse' since the NDA came into power a little over two years ago.
"People, farmers, workers, and students in Bihar today are worse off than they were a few years ago. Youths have no job opportunities and farmers are not being provided proper irrigational facilities. The Nitish administration has proven itself that it is all talk and no substance and the people of Bihar are now learning about it," Bhujbal said.
The NCP leader also criticized the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and called him an over-zealot who was raising the issues of Biharis just to 'become a hero' and gain cheap popularity among the Maharashtrians.
Party state president Upendra Kushwaha, who was more animated than Bhujbal in his speech, dismissed the opponents' assertions that the NCP was a 'small party'.
"If anyone could prove that the NCP was a small party, I would retire from politics," Kushwaha said to the applause of his supporters while leaving many other wondering what he meant by 'prove'.
"We will show them our might in our national meet at Gandhi Maidan in Patna this October," the former Janata Dal (U) leader said adding his party would contest in the Lok Sabha elections from each constituency in Bihar.
Party national general secretary Tariq Anwar also criticized Nitish Kumar for 'not fulfilling his electoral promises'.
"He had shown many dreams to the people of Bihar but despite being in power for nearly three years, one could not tell any difference from the previous government," Anwar said.
