CM Hears Complaints against the DDCs
Patna: June 23, 2008
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his Janata Durbar in Patna on Monday held the first ever meeting with the District Council members in the presence of the Deputy Development Commissioners (DDC) to review development at the grassroots level and suggest ways to streamline communication between the DDC and the local government bodies.
Unfettered by the presence of the DDC, the council members accused the bureaucrats of 'acting as Gods' while completely disregarding the rules and regulations causing hindrances to various projects going at the local level.
"We are constantly being ignored by the DDCs who are getting away with corruption and incompetence," the council members said.
While some complained about massive irregularity in the appointment of teachers and Indira Awaas Yojana, others demanded more respect by the DDCs, bodyguards, vehicles with red beacons, and more share in the Backward Region Development Fund.
Alarmed by the large number of complaints, the Chief Minister issued stern warnings to the DDCs saying they must coordinate works with the local leaders or they would be asking for trouble in the long run.
"Your job is to monitor the development works and provide legal and other advices to the council members. If you cannot understand this simple fact then you may be in the wrong place," Kumar said adding this was the last warning to them and severe measures would be taken if more complaints were received against them.
