Satyendra Dubey Murder Accused Escapes from Police Custody
Patna: June 23, 2008
Uday Chaudhary, one of the accused in the 2006 killing of Satyendra Dubey, an engineer working on the Prime Minister Vajpayee's Golden Quadrilateral Highway project in Gaya, managed to escape from the police custody while being brought from the Beur Jail to a court in Patna on Monday.
Chaudhary, as reported, worked his way out of the handcuff and escaped just minutes before being produced before a District and Sessions judge at Patna Civil Court, officials said.
Dubey, an IIT alumnus, was shot dead in Gaya on November 27, 2003 while returning to his home from the railway station.
This is the second time Chaudhary has managed to give a slip to the bumbling cops who, for reasons known only to them, continue to use extra large sized handcuffs offering plenty of opportunities to the criminals to toss them off at will.
Attempts are being made to apprehend the escapee, City Superintendent of Police (SP) Anwar Hussain said adding the two constables escorting Chaudhary had been suspended.
