Tempo Driver Beaten up by an Army Jawan

Patna: June 23, 2008

An auto-rickshaw driver on Frazer Road in Patna on Monday was brutally beaten up by an army jawan after the driver asked for an extra Re. 1 to offset the increased cost of petrol, Kotwali police confirmed.

According to the police report, the auto-rickshaw driver, who was identified as Upendra Kumar, brought Ravi Kumar, an army jawan, to Frazer Road.

When the driver asked for an additional Re. 1, the army jawan refused to give him the money. This led to an argument between the two and before long, Ravi Kumar pulled his belt out and started to beat Upendra with it while also kicking him with his legs.

Seeing the driver being beaten up mercilessly, a crowd gave a chase to the army jawan who then ran to the Dak Bungalow crossing police post to save him from the mob wrath.

Situation was brought under control after the police intervened and took Ravi Kumar to the Kotwali police station.

Upendra Kumar who sustained cuts and injuries on several parts of his body was taken to the hospital for treatment as the police were considering filing criminal charges against the army jawan.
