BDO's Death Possibly Murder; Believe Experts

Patna: June 24, 2008

Forensic experts involved in investigating the mysterious death of Ariari BDO Arvind Kumar Mishra in Sheikhpura district last Sunday said they did not find any fingerprint on the firearm that was recovered from the crime scene indicating the criminal or criminals took extra care to eliminate any evidence that could lead the law to them.

Two days after Mishra's death, fingerprint experts said the fact that the pistol found near the feet of the BDO had been carefully wiped off and no fingerprints were found on it thus ruling out suicide as the cause of his death.

As reported, Mishra died of a gunshot wound on his forehead. Ballistic tests indicated the same gun that was recovered from his room was used to kill him.

Interestingly, Mishra was in charge of the investigation relating to massive irregularity in the appointment of teachers in the district.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while expressing his grief over the death of Mishra and directing the officials to investigate the case to catch the killer, announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh to the widow of the victim and a government job to a member of his family. He also asked the Home Department to ensure continuance of Mishra's salary and other perks to his family till his natural period of retirement.
