No Bigger Social Worker than Surajbhan; Says Paswan
Patna: June 25, 2008
Union Steel Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan, reacting on the conviction and sentencing of party MP Surajbhan Singh on Wednesday, expressed his disappointment at the latest turn of events saying it was a huge setback for the party but that would not deter the LJP from continuing to fight for the rights of the people.
"This (the court verdict) is certainly disappointing but it would not be appropriate for me to comment on the court's decision," Paswan said.
The Union Minister further said that he was not aware of the past of Surajbhan Singh but in the present, "there is no bigger social worker in the Indian politics than Surajbhan Singh".
"He is a committed friend of the poor and the backward and his absence from the political scene would be a huge loss for our party," the LJP leader said.
Meanwhile, relatives of Rami Singh, soon after the sentencing of Surajbhan Singh, said they were disappointed with the court's decision to give life term to the MP and the other two in the case.
"These men destroyed the life of my aunt and her four young children. We were hoping the court would award them death penalties but instead, they got life terms. This pales in comparison against what our family has gone through in the last 16 years," Ram Vinay Singh, nephew of Rami Singh, said.
