Three Arrested in Sheikhpura BDO Killing
Sheikhpura: June 25, 2008
Police in Sheikhpura district, three days after the killing of Ariari Block Development Officer Arvind Kumar Mishra, arrested three persons who, officials said, were contract killers hired by the former mukhia of Efni Panchyat Rajiv Ranjan, a.k.a. Guruji.
Bhagalpur region Zonal IG Radhakrishna Kinni, at a press conference on Wednesday, said three men who were identified as Ranjit Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Navin Kumar Chaurasia were arrested following raids at various places in the district.
"We tracked them from a motorcycle that was used during the commission of the crime and later recovered by the police. A cell phone that was also used during the crime was recovered from their possession," Kinni said adding the three had confessed of killing the BDO.
Attempts were being made to nab Guruji who, the police said, had gone underground since the murder of Mishra.
Interestingly, Guruji's wife is the current mukhia of the Efni Panchayat, reports said.
Meanwhile, Mishra's bodyguard Shankar Mandal was fired on Wednesday for failing to protect the BDO, officials said.
Mishra was gunned down last Sunday at his home in Rajapuram area near Station Chowk.
He was spearheading an investigation involving irregularities in the hiring of several school teachers in the area.
