Angry Choubey Walks out of Party Meeting
Patna: June 28, 2008
Tension between the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership and PHED Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey became evident on Saturday when the minister, annoyed by the party state president Radha Mohan Singh's advice to keep his speech short, walked out of the meeting of the BJP working committee members leaving them in a state of shock.
The incident occurred when Singh interrupted Choubey a couple of times to keep his speech short.
This irked Choubey who then engaged in an altercation with Singh saying if he did not want him to speak at the meeting, why was he invited in the first place.
Singh argued that since party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad was in a rush to catch a train, he wished everyone to keep their speech short
This did not convince Choubey who said that this was not the first time it had happened to him and if Prasad's speech was so important for the meeting then why was he not allowed to speak before anyone else.
Other party leaders tried to intervene but Choubey did not see the need to back down and stomped out of the meeting without talking to the reporters.
Choubey, since his removal transfer from the Urban Development ministry to the Public Health Engineering Department, has been a leading voice of dissent within the party and has blamed senior party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi for engaging in the 'politics of personal agenda'.
