Students Demand CBI Probe in BCECE Results
Patna: June 28, 2008
Demanding to declare the latest results of the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (BCECE) null and void, a CBI investigation into the allegations of irregularities in the results, and an end to the ongoing strike by the Patna University employees, students in Patna under various political banners staged a march on Saturday threatening to intensify their stir if these demands were not met quickly and without any preconditions.
The march was jointly sponsored by the All India Students' Association (AISA), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), among half a dozen other organizations, the protest started at the PU office and ended up at the Bhagat Singh Chowk near Gandhi Maidan where several student leaders threatened to take their agitation to the next level and meet with the Governor to voice their resentments.
Accusing the Nitish administration of allowing the state education to slip into the hands of the so-called Education Mafia, the students said the government's decision to investigate the allegations of irregularities in the BCECE results by a state agency was a lame attempt to cover up the charges of corruptions and until the CBI is brought in to get to the bottom of the truth, they would not withdraw their agitation.
