Criminals Break into Congress Leader's House

Patna: June 29, 2008

Police in Patna swung into action after burglars broke into the house of Congress leader Dr. Ashok Kumar in Sri Krishna Puri area and tried to snatch a gold chain from the neck of Dr. Kumar's mother, the police said.

As reported, at least three men gained accessed to the second floor by climbing up a guava tree leading to the bedroom of the legislator's mother Chinta Devi.

Realizing some feeling on her neck, a startled Mrs. Devi woke up and screamed for help forcing the criminals to retreat and escape.

A police team surveyed the crime scene and collected clues that could lead to the criminals.

Though the MLA was not in Patna when the incident occurred, other family members including his wife and his father were in the house who woke up at the scream of Chinta Devi and informed the police.

A K-9 unit was brought in but that proved to be of no help due to rain throughout the night, Sri Krishna Puri police station in-charge Anuj Kumar said adding attempts were being made to identify and arrest the criminals.
