Doctors Call for an end to Feticide

Patna District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar Sinha, at a workshop on the evil of feticide, appealed to the doctors to take a proactive approach in educating the families and work towards changing the mindset of the society that still puts too much emphasis on boys than girls.
"The doctors are responsible for not disclosing the sex of the child and discouraging ultrasound tests that some use to decide whether to go for abortion or not," the DM said at the workshop organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
Chief guest and Padmashree recipient Dr. Indu Bhushan Sinha, in her speech, advocated for strict restriction on fetus killing saying it was a huge blot on the Indian society and steps must be taken to minimize it.
Representatives from 14 districts participated in the seminar including IMA Bihar president Dr. Raman Kumar Verma, Dr. Manju Gita Mishra, Dr. Basant Singh, Dr. A. K. Vatsyayan, Dr. Shivendra Kumar Sinha, Dr. Gagandeo Singh, Dr. Sarita, Dr. S. L. Mandal, Dr. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Arun Kumar Thakur, Dr. S. K. Jain, and Dr. G. N. Singh were also present at the seminar.
