Man Shot Dead in Patna City; Sister-in-law Arrested

Patna: June 29, 2008

Criminals in Patna City under Sultanganj police station on Sunday shot several rounds killing a man while causing a fright in the area as pedestrians ran to take cover and homeowners locked their doors to avoid any untoward incident.

By the time the police arrived at the crime scene, the criminals were long gone.

The victim was identified as Ajay Yadav of Khudi Bose Lane.

Based on a police report filed by the victim's brother Sanjay Gope, the police arrested Anita Devi, the sister-in-law of Ajay Yadav who had been living separately since the death of her husband a few years ago.

Gope told the police that Anita Devi was a woman of dubious character and had been ejected from the family after she staked her claims on the family property following the death of his brother.

"She had threatened to get us killed and today she followed up on her threat, Gope said.

Police are attempting to arrest three more persons in the case whose names have been mentioned in the FIR, station in-charge P. N. Upadhyaya said.
