Court Rejects Tantia Construction's Appeal

Patna: May 7, 2008

In the first setback to the Tantia Construction Limited, a single bench of the Patna High Court on Wednesday turned down its plea against the state government saying the matter should be resolved between the two parties but left the final decision in the case for the Chief Justice giving some hope to the construction company.

As reported before, after the state government pulled the road construction contract from the Tantia Construction for failing to make satisfactory progress in Bihar, the company crying foul knocked the door of the court putting the government on defense.

Justice Navniti Prasad Singh, after hearing arguments from both sides, expressed his frustration with the way the case was being handled in the media with both parties making disparaging statements against each other.

The Road Construction department, in the meantime, issued a statement saying the government would build the roads using materials and equipment already at various construction sites. Instructing the company not to move any of the equipment, the administration has posted security guards to ensure the contractors do not remove them without the government's approval.
