Patna: May 8, 2008
Thousands of children from various schools in Patna on Thursday observed the International Red Cross Day by releasing dozens of helium-filled colorful balloons from Kargil Chowk in a gesture of promoting brotherhood among people of different caste, color, creed, and nationality.
The event organized to mark the birth anniversary of the 19th century Swiss businessman and Red Cross founder Henry Dunan was attended by young boys, girls, and their teachers and parents who made a human chain from the Red Cross building to the Kargil Chowk to promote goodwill and appreciation for other cultures and end to wars across the globe.
The Chief Secretary of the Bihar government R. J. M. Pillai, as the chief guest at the event, in his speech talked about global warming and acknowledged the danger of fast climatic changes that could pose serious threats to the very existence of the planet.
S. K. Negi, the chief secretary to the Governor and Bihar Red Cross Society secretary described the organization as the 'sentry' of the humanity and praised its role in providing support in war-torn and natural disaster areas.
