DAV Students, Teachers Injured in Bus Accident
Patna: May 9, 2008
More than a dozen children, two teachers, and a bus driver were injured when a DAV School bus collided head-on with a private bus on New Bypass Road in Patna under Kankarbagh police station on Friday.
The impact was so great that it left the front of the bus in a badly mangled piece of steel.
While most students were released after administering first aids to them, two students, two teachers, and the school bus driver remain in critical condition at a private hospital in Kankarbagh.
The parents of one of the injured students told the police that the school bus driver Brahma Singh was a habitual offender and had a history of driving the bus under the influence of alcohol.
DAV principal Asha Nutan, however, denied the allegations saying Singh was a good driver and the Friday accident was caused due to heavy traffic on the highway and failure to make proper judgment by the driver of the private bus who fled the accident scene fearing mob justice.
Unlike police stations in big metros, Patna police do not have tools like breathalyzer or other alcohol detecting equipment.
The police are investigating the case.
