Photo by Anupam SinghFunctioning at all colleges in Patna came to a grinding halt on Friday after the university employees under the banner of Bihar State University Employees Association went on a 3-day strike to press for their demands including a 50% raise in their Dearness Allowance (DA).

At Patna University, agitating employees put locks at all important offices to prevent officials from opening it and marched on the streets to show their solidarity towards other university employees who they said were inadequately paid and needed to be compensated for the inflationary rise in the cost of living.

Talking to the reporters, Bihar State University Employees Association director Dr. Ramjatan Sinha said the government must consider the employees' demands to prevent and disruption in education in Bihar.

Union leader Umesh Prasad said their demands include raise in Dearness Allowance, salary comparable to the employees of the Secretariat, and ACP benefits, among others.
