CPI Leader Grumbles but Stays behind the UPA Government
Patna: May 16, 2008
Communist Party of India (CPI) national general secretary A. B. Vardhan, while attending a meeting of the party state council in Patna on Friday, blamed the UPA government at the Center for continuing price hikes saying its financial and economic policies were deeply flawed and needed to be revisited.
Calling for a nationwide stir on June 6 and an 'India Bandh' on August 20, Vardhan said that the party held hundreds of meetings across the nation between April 17 and May 15 and suggested ways to check prices from rising but the government chose to ignore them further digging hole for itself.
Vardhan, however, realizing the need for coat-tailing the Congress government to remain in relevance in Indian political landscape, ruled out withdrawal of support to the UPA government and instead suggesting ways to check rising prices including ban on importing food items from foreign countries, buying directly from the Indian farmers thus eliminating the need of middlemen, and redefinition of what constitutes Below Poverty Level.
The Communist leader also lashed out at the NDA government in Bihar saying it was the parties of hollow promises and meaningless announcements while failing to deliver despite being in power for last two and a half years.
