Gang of Computer Monitor Thieves Busted
Patna: May 21, 2008
The Kotwali police in Patna on Wednesday busted a gang of criminals, mostly teenagers, known for stealing computer monitors from government and private offices and selling them in the black market at a much cheaper price.
Kotwali police station in-charge Abhay Narayan Singh, at a press conference following the arrests of the criminals, said the gang members, in a well-hatched plan, used to walk into government and other offices while posing to be computer repair guys. Finding a good opportunity, they would unplug the flat-screen monitors, stuff them in a bag and walk out of the office before the officials could realize a theft had occurred.
Among the arrested persons are a son of a bank official and two sons of police officials.
As reported, the police first arrested the school-going son of bank official Kundan Kumar who then led the police to the houses of other gang members – all students, and one Deepak Kumar, a computer shop owner on Boring Canal Road who bought the stolen monitors to be sold to unsuspecting computers.
Six stolen monitors were recovered from the shop of Deepak Kumar.
