Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at a high-level meeting of the state's top cops at his residence in Patna on Thursday, thanked and commended the law-enforcement agencies for working towards the goal of bringing crime rate down in the state while sending a strong signal to the citizens that they were there to help and assist them.
Admonishing them to enforce the law without violating any human rights, the Chief Minister told the officials to intensify their drive against the criminals particularly in those areas where crime rate had gone up in recent weeks with a series of armed robberies and home break-ins.
The Chief Minister directed the state police to provide all security to construction companies in Bihar to protect them from criminal elements while also ensuring quality workmanship so as not to repeat the Kankarbagh drainage disaster.
Condemning police atrocities against poor and helpless in some cases, Kumar directed the officials to treat everyone with due care and respect.
He also appealed to the people of Bihar to not indulge in mob justice that has plagued the state with a series of lynching. "Self control must be employed and the criminals turned in to the nearest police station," the Chief Minister said.
Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Shivchandra Jha, Chief Secretary R. J. M. Pillai, IGs, DIGs, and a number of senior police officials were present at the meeting.
