Rain Brings Misery, Relief in Patna
Patna: May 23, 2008
In a precursor to what the residents of Patna would be subjected to come this monsoon season, the streets of the state capital on Friday once again turned into a nightmare following a short drizzle turning the roads into canals in a grim testimony of the government's inability to deal with the problem despite being in power for more than two years.
Areas like Mithapur, Karbigahia, under the Chiraiyantand Bridge, Patna Junction, Rajapur, Kurji Mor, Bakerganj, Dariapur, Lohanipur, and Kankarbagh were all under ankle-deep water causing usual inconveniences to the pedestrians and motorists as well.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is on record for saying the Patna'ites should not expect much change in the water-logging situation from previous years thanks to some failed projects, is, however, believed to have directed the Road Construction minister and Urban Development Minister to keep the misery level to the minimum by ensuring to keep the underground drainage system from clogging.
The rain, however, did bring some relief from the sweltering heat by bringing the temperature down by nearly 5 degree to 30 degree Celsius, weather officials said.
