College of Commerce Hosts Seminar on Plastic Hazards
Patna: May 23, 2008
Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav at Commerce College in Patna on Friday inaugurated a national seminar on 'Plastic Waste; a Hazard to Environment' co-sponsored by the University Grant Commission, by welcoming a number of environmental experts and participants who offered nearly 70 research papers to support their claims on the subject.
Expressing his concerns over the ever-rising use of plastic products that contribute much to the pollution problems, said that despite passing of several laws, people continue to use plastic bags that not only clog the underground drainage system but also give rise to many other associated environmental problems.
Yadav also regretted the use of synthetic materials in the building of new roads saying the disadvantages easily outweighed the merits and he would talk to the Road Construction Minister for finding alternate solution for strengthening Bihar roads.
Incidentally, Yadav was the Road Construction Minister before being given the Health ministry in the April reshuffle of the Nitish cabinet.
College of Commerce Dr. Suresh Prasad Singh welcomed the guests while Patna University ex-Vice Chancellor Dr. S. N. Das shed some light on the topic of discussion.
