Death of Boy due to Medical Negligence Spurs Protest
Patna: May 26, 2008
Following the death of a 13-year son of Machhuatoli resident Mohammed Nayyar due to the alleged negligence by the doctors of Rajeshwar Hospital, members of the Krantikari Communist Vikas Manch (KCVM) held a dharna at Kargil Chowk in Patna on Monday demanding the arrests of the guilty doctors and closure of the health facility in question.
KCVM president Shaukat Ali said Mohammed Niaz, the son of Mohammed Nayyar, was to be operated on his jaws. Instead the doctors of the hospital operated him on his neck that led to his eventual death.
"The doctors had admitted that they made a mistake in performing operation on the boy's neck but they insisted he would be fine and released the boy to his parents. Things, however, turned from bad to worse and complications arose in the boy's wounds on his neck as a result of which he died after five weeks in March," boy's parents who also sat on the dharna told the reporters.
Demanding a high-level probe in the case, the protestors demanded compensation for the boy's family and shutting down of the clinic to avoid such gross mistake in future.
