Pandit Nehru Remembered. Photo by Anupam SinghChief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday paid tributes to the nation's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to mark his 44th death anniversary by placing flowers at his statue just outside Patna Junction.

Amidst the firing of customary guns by the members of the Armed Forces, the Chief Minister and the representative of Governor R. S. Gavai B. N. Jha paid rich tributes to Nehru who died on this day in 1964 at the age of 75.

"People may agree or disagree with some of his ideologies but there is no doubt that without Pandit Nehru, we could not have achieved independence from the British in the manner we did," State Law Minister Ramnath Thakur said.

In yet another function organized by the Congress Party, leaders paid homage to the first Prime Minister at party headquarters at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna led by party state president Sadanand Singh.

Similar events were also held by other political outfits including Nationalist Congress Party and the Human Resources Department.
