RJD Protest over Poor Power, Water Situation
Patna: May 27, 2008
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders and supporters in Patna on Tuesday burnt the effigy of Bihar Energy Minister Ramashraya Prasad Singh to protest against the poor power situation in Patna and other parts of the state accusing the administration of failing to resolve the problem despite being in power for two and a half years.
Leading the pack was RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav who said the power situation in Bihar was much better under the Lalu-Rabri regime; a claim as lame as RJD's assertion that crime rate was much lower under the RJD rule.
Taking out the rally from the party's headquarters all the way to the Dak Bungalow Crossing, the MP then torched the effigy of the Energy Minister while bringing the traffic to a standstill for nearly an hour.
"This government has not done anything to improve the situation of power and drinking water in the state. The fact is, things have gone from bad to worse. Patna had much better water and electricity when the RJD government was in the power," Yadav said adding if the Chief Minister and the Energy Minister had any morality, they would have resigned by now.
A massive dharna outside the Bihar State Electricity Board office has been planned for June 5 to 'expose' the government of its failure, the RJD leader said.
