BSNL Employees Protest to Press for their Demands. Photo by Anupam SinghKeeping up with the rest of the government employees in Bihar who are seen on the picket lines more often than in their offices, employees of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) demonstrated outside their head office in Patna on Wednesday to press for their demands.

The anger was mostly directed at the BSNL management who, the protestors said, had asked them to withdraw some of their other demands before it would consider their demand for increase in their dearness allowance.

"The management is clearly blackmailing us into withdrawing our other very legitimate demands but that is not going to work. We are not going to change the terms and will intensify our stir if our demands are not met in totality," said one of the protestors.

"Earlier the management had shown some sign of compromise that had raised our hopes of an agreeable settlement but then suddenly it changed its attitude and posed conditions before us that are not acceptable to us," said Laxman Singh, one of the union leaders.
