CM Announces Rewards for Toppers in Bihar

Photo by Anupam Singh.Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Wednesday officially released the results of the Matric and Inter finals and congratulated the successful students by announcing cash incentive awards for the toppers in both exams.

"We are encouraged by the fact that girls in the state continue to do better and better each year and this year is no exception. Schemes like stipend for school uniform and bicycles for girls have been great incentives to a lot of girls in the state and we expect to further raise the standard of education in Bihar by continuing to implement many exciting plans that are in the pipeline," the Chief Minister said.

He also announced a cash reward of Rs. 25,000 to the state toppers in Matric and Inter exams, Rs. 15,000 to the top ten in both categories, and Rs. 10,000 to the toppers in the districts.

With over 5 lakh students appearing in the tests, the success rate was registered at 78.87 percent beating out last year's result of 68.48 percent. Altogether 54,896 students secured first division, 285,522 second division, and 57,438 third division, Bihar School Examination Board chairperson A. K. P. Yadav said.

Interestingly, among the top ten toppers in science, eight are from Patna Science College with Preeti Kumari topping them all!

Jubilant by the college's remarkable success, Patna Science College principal Dr. S. N. Guha appealed to the government to reinstate Inter curriculum in the college that had earlier been scrapped from the university by the administration.
