BATA Official Gunned Down in Patna
Patna: Nov. 17, 2008
Criminals in Patna under Pataliputra police station on Monday night shot and killed the senior manager of BATA Company (Digha) Pranav Kumar Singh as he returned to his home in Kankarbagh in his Maruti car at the end of the day.
According to the victim's companion and friend Arun Kumar who was also in the car, two men on a motorcycle followed the vehicle from Digha. Not suspecting any foul play, Singh stopped his car near the Sai Temple when the criminals approached the window of the vehicle and opened several rounds of fire striking Singh multiple times.
After shooting Singh, the criminals then escaped on their motorcycle before they could be overpowered by other people in the area.
Singh, 45, was rushed to a nearby clinic where he was declared dead.
Senior police officials including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar, City SP Anwar Hussain, Sachivalay SP Sridhar Mandal, and DSP (Law and Order) Amar Singh rushed to the crime site and took account of the situation interviewing several people in the area.
Distraught family members pointed their fingers towards a co-worker identified only as Jai Prakash.
An autopsy was scheduled later at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH).
Attempts are being made to contact Jai Prakash who is yet to be found, officials said.
