Patna: Oct. 2, 2008
Governor R. L. Bhatia and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to mark the birth anniversaries of the two leaders who help shape India's political turf during and after the freedom struggle.
Both Bhatia and Kumar placed flowers on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Patna's historical Gandhi Maidan and later on the statue of the late Prime Minister at Shastri Nagar Park.
"India could hope to achieve prosperity and development only by following on the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi who understood the needs of the people in a way only he could realize," the Chief Minister said.
State Information and Technology Minister Dr. Anil Kumar, Bihar Assembly chairperson Uday Narayan Chowdhary, Energy Minister Ramashray Prasad Singh and other members of the government also attended the event.
Functions were also organized by the Congress Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party, and Nationalist Congress Party at their party headquarters.
