Saris worth over Rs. 22 lakh Stolen
Patna: Oct. 2, 2008
Burglars on late Wednesday night broke into the Banarsi Sari Kendra under Pirbahore police station and fled with expensive saris and other clothing items to the tune of Rs. 22 lakh, including Rs. 29,000 in cash, the police said on Thursday.
In a police report filed by the shop owner Rajesh Kumar, the burglars apparently broke into the shop on Ashok Rajpath near Kulharia Complex, by busting nine padlocks.
Acting only in candle-lights so as not to raise an alarm, the burglars smashed the show cases and stole hundreds of high-priced Banarsi saris.
The theft was discovered on Thursday morning when Rajesh arrived at the shop to open for business.
The police recovered an iron pick, two large screwdrivers, and some burnt candles.
An investigation has been launched to identify and arrest the thieves.
