New
Year Resolutions are nothing but short-term
annual goals that help us to improve and break
out of bad habits. However, most people forget
about it the very next day and get on with their
jobs and lives as usual.
Mark Twain had very aptly commented, "yesterday,
everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last
drink and swore his last oath. Today, we are a
pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from
now, we shall have cast our reformation to the
winds and gone to cutting our ancient
shortcomings considerably shorter than ever".
Whenever I make decisions or resolutions, I
often try to consider the future. I firmly
believe that my present and future are
interwoven together. What I do today will have
impact toward tomorrow in some way. For example,
my eating habits; exercise; and health
disciplines will have serious affect how I feel
tomorrow and in the future. The list can be
extended for several hours.
I for one do not attest to a philosophy of
worrying about every move I make and how it may
impact tomorrow. I plan to enjoy the moment.
Presently I am having the best time of my life
in San Francisco in the company of my wife, our
three children, son-in-law, and two
grand-children. I wish to make the most of
today, because I will never get another chance
at reliving it again. I plan to enjoy the
moment. I do not hold back on living today to
the fullest. Life is the gift of nature to the
mankind. It is our duty to take care of this
time and live it fully so that there are no
regrets. We have lots of time to focus on our
thoughts. Most people do not have the luxury of
taking time to relax and think. We must use the
time to think through problems we face.
Many people have found that, when they tune in
to their internal dialogue, much of it is
negative. This, in turn, affects every aspect of
one's life. When we are stressed, certain
hormones are produced by the body. When released
infrequently these hormones are harmless, but
when produced continuously, they can cause
serious damage. There are always extremes in
every situation.
I have several friends who have lots of money -
husband and wife working long hours, living in a
large home and little time to enjoy.
Also good health is the most important
contributor to a "HAPPY LIFE". Feeling great,
one is to able to enjoy high energy and a
positive attitude. Life is made of moments,
small pieces of silver amidst long stretches of
tedium. We have to teach ourselves how to live,
really live --- to love the journey, not the
destination. In my own case, I made a resolution
several months ago which has successfully
changed my life for the better. I go for a brisk
walk every morning, rain, snow or shine for over
an hour which has helped me in my overall immune
system and weight control. This physical
activity releases endorphins that help me feel
happy and more at peace. I live my life to
maintain my own happiness while trying my best
to not cause unhappiness to anyone else. This
has been my resolution which I hope to keep.
