Don’t be
surprised or widen your eyes in bewilderment.
No, this is not a rape incident committed in a
moving vehicle on the roads of Delhi nor a
brutal molestation of a girl in fast suburban
train of Mumbai. It is mobile sex in the name of
giving massage in a small city called Gaya.
Flesh trade, like other businesses, has come up
with a new idea or what is called tricks of the
trade.
This morning (July 29, 2006) before going to
office, I switched on the television to have a
quick look at the top stories and saw a very
disheartening news item on NDTV - "sex and
massage in the moving vehicles in Gaya".
The reporter was covering the news item live
from inside a Maruti Van where four people were
seated, one of them being a woman with her face
covered. The van was running on the road all
along the Phalgu River towards Bogh Gaya. As I
am familiar with the place, I found the news
very striking and sat down to watch the complete
coverage.
It was shocking! In fact, it was disgusting
because the nasty crime was being committed in
the land of Buddha. The whole film-style gossip
between the TV correspondent and the lady,
including the man running the sex racket was no
less than a revelation as to how the man was
running the sex racket. He informed how he fixed
appointments with clients on the mobile and
arranged everything in the moving vehicle. In
the name of giving massage, the girls satisfy
the sexual urges of the clients in the moving
Maruti Van and get paid somewhere between
300-400 rupees per assignment.
But why moving vehicle? On this question, the
pimp replied that because of safety reasons he
devised such a novel plan. After all, the police
fail to discover while you keep on moving, and
even you sense the danger of being caught you
have enough time to adjust everything before the
cops get hold of you. More, when caught they can
turn into guides to the foreign tourists
(clients). Isn’t it a good business idea?
And who are the clients? "Anyone but we more
focus on foreigners because they pay more and
are less argumentative", replied the man with a
Nokia mobile in his hand. It was understandable
why the racketeer selected the Maruti Van.
The sex-cum-massage operation is mostly run on
the Gaya-Bodh Gaya road and Gaya-Rajgir road
where police beat is almost nil except a few
police stations en route. Upon being asked as to
how long he has been operating, the man in his
mid 20s replied that it was a recent idea.
On being asked about the number of girls
involved in this trade, the man gave an
ambiguous reply. "Many", was all he said. And
then the interview was over.
The interesting thing about the lady is that she
is married with two children and a very loving
husband, who works in the same town.
It changed my fresh morning mood into a souring
irritation. Why? Because I love the place and
the people, but more importantly, it is the land
of Buddha, the apostle of peace and goodness.
Other thoughts swelled my mind all the way to
the office that how flesh trade is taking toll
of even smaller cities, and God knows who are
the persons involved. Above all, what will
happen if its tentacles reach the young,
innocent young boys and girls of Bihar?
There is an urgent need to nip the menace in the
bud before it becomes a full-grown tree. I
believe the authorities in Patna and Gaya might
have watched the news or if not, would read this
and act accordingly.

NMy 2 cents. You cannot stop oldest
profession of the world. It will
come up in one way or the other.
Rather we go back to the Buddha's
days and accept it and give respect
to it. Remember the famous Amrapali
of Vaishali and Buddha visited her
place and accepted lunch at her
place. Puritanism came in this area
with the impact of religions coming
from west i.e. Christianity and
Islam. - Naveen - July 30, 2006 |
