The latest attack on Mumbai has caused great hurt and anger amongst most Indians. The present information age has given all the people an opportunity to closely see the "Indian Response" to terror in action.

One of the worst performers as usual are the politicians. On one hand we have Mulayam Singh Yadav and Arjun Singh who are blindly supporting the terrorist SIMI to satiate their infinite lust for power and money. On the other hand, we have the so-called educated and sophisticated politicians like PM Man Mohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil. Instead of standing up to the terrorist bullies these guys are begging the world to stand up against terrorists but at the same time are showing cowardice by not doing the same domestically. How can you expect the world including Pakistan to take steps against the terrorists when you yourself cannot do the same within your own country? There is an old saying "God helps those who help themselves". How about the PM helping ourselves first instead of expecting others to fight our war? Do we Indians talk about peace and compassion only because we are cowards and don't have the heart to step out of the comfort zone and take the heat? Is that why India is a peaceful and tolerant country?

One thing that clearly stands out in India is that the brave people here are mostly the crooked people whereas most of the bhadraloks are cowards. You will find immense bravely and boldness in the crooked bahubalis like Mulayam, Lalu, Shahabuddin and Arjun Singh. On the other hand, amongst the educated folks like Manmohan Singh you will only find the weaklings.

To progress, a country needs honest leaders WITH courage. Alas, in India the only people with courage are the crooks with vested interests. What kind of system have we created that produces, supports and promotes the brave crooks and coward bhadraloks? Why can't it be vice-versa?

All the Indian citizens need to take the following vow, "Next time I will try to show courage in front of at least one corrupt/unjust adversary be it the police, electricity board, railway office or the irrigation department". If you cannot directly stand against them, at least try to support the person who is arguing with them instead of watching the tamasha.

Leaders without courage and respect for justice are no leader at all. In India we don't have any leaders we merely have politicians.

The Mumbai terrorist attacks should be looked from the prism of the millions of attacks on India by foreign invaders since the past thousands of years. Does the caste and language spilt Indian society has any sense of justice and courage to unite against the terrorists? India became slave because we have had 'leaders' like we have today for thousands of years. We can only feel sad about the past but cannot do anything about it. But how about doing something about the present? People in the past tolerated the corrupt ‘leaders’ of the society and we all became slaves, are we going to do the same this time too?

Comments:
Well said brother, because the whole terrorism problem is being created and sheltered by our so-called netas. Our government is so inefficient that they cannot even open their mouth against these people. The very first opportunity they take is to blame Pakistan because it is easier to blame others rather than take the blame on themselves. These leaders are not bothered whether people live or die. Have we ever seen any politician's house or life being threatened by these terrorists? Why would it be when they are the ones who instigate these things.

If only leaders could change, then only people will change otherwise they will continue to suffer silently. - Seema Jyotishi - July 19, 2006

I totally agree with you sir. Though our PM is a well-educated person, he's afraid of taking strict actions against terrorism. Just begging from the world to stand up against terrorism won't help. At least India should take lessons from Israel. This government can't do anything. Its hands are tied. Just to remain in power its has to compromise. Its allies won't let it do anything .

To build a better India one should give up the greed of power. Anyways, this discussion is futile until these politicians change themselves. - Monika - July 25, 2006
