The New World Order

The poor countries China and India are making waves these days. There is a law that states "What goes up has to come down" consequently "What goes down has to come up to fill the place lest there be vacuum". In the Roman era, Rome was the hub of the world. Romans felt civilization only existed in their land and the rest were barbarians. If you asked an ordinary Roman of that era about countries beyond the Roman empire he would have known little. For him the Roman empire was the world. Then there was the era of the Egyptians. In more recent times too we have seen the dominance of some countries.

Each time the dominant country/society thinks it is invincible. They think the world order would stay for ever. However, the only thing certain in the world is change. Nothing has or will ever remain the same. The world order and the equations keep changing with time. No one can stop that.

We have to recognize the good, the bad and the ugly and set them apart. If we do politics in that we have to pay the price for it as the world order will change for the worse. The US has always been very myopic and often drowned the voice of reason to promote self interest. It showed in their policies world over. Take this ludicrous India specific example. India was always treated with suspicion as it was considered to be a Soviet block ally. The choice of being allied to the Soviet block can be discussed at length. However, the ground realities are that the Russians gave us Steel Plants, weapons and their spares etc. etc. Compare that with what Pakistan got over the decades for being a US ally.

India developed the N-bomb. US became wild at India. All sorts of sanctions and freezes followed. Consider that reaction with the ground facts today. Had India been non-nuclear, China would be dominating this part of the world. India refused to sign the NPT and US policy makers worried that India would proliferate nuclear technology. They had their magnifying glasses on every move that India made. In its myopia, the US failed to see India as a right minded, harmless democracy trying to develop. They were content in humiliating India with the "Indo-Pak" phrase. India did not proliferate but both China and Pakistan took the opportunity to happily proliferate all the dreaded technologies. The rude awakening for the US came very late. The world order had already taken a turn for the worse.

We have seen two World Wars. As I see it, they happened because, in the changing order, power went into the wrong hands. If the third World War were to come, it is common knowledge what would happen. I feel that, in the changing unpredictable times, a change of mental paradigms and bold decisions are more than overdue. The only thing one should worry about is that the right kind of moderate minded, peace loving societies get empowered in this ever changing world. That is good for this planet. What is good for the planet is good for all humans that call it their home.

This is how I see it. I would love to read the views of other PD readers.

WW III has already started my friend. Take a look at the Mid-East. - Charles F. Schiel - Mar. 15, 2006

True it could be the makings of WW-III. The mess in the Mid East, North Korea and, if I may add, Pakistan has been created by the technology suppliers. Pakistan, with its fanatic elements scarcely in control of the Government and its history of swift regime changes, is an area of concern too. All international policing has failed. The world order has changed in a very dangerous way. People who always thought they were in control are now stupefied. They have no answers. - Rajesh Chaubey - Mar. 15, 2006
