I
am a regular
reader of PatnaDaily.Com, and have a feeling
that this PatnaDaily.Com family (the
PatnaDaily.Com team, the writers and the
readers) has so many sincere and patriot
intellectuals from Bihar, India. We have such a
nice group of people here. They have different
opinions and thoughts, but one basic wish in
everybody’s heart is ‘Development of Bihar and
India’.
I salute PatnaDaily.Com for maintaining this
wonderful platform where Biharis and other
Indians can discuss topics related to India and
Bihar, to the writers who devote their time to
think and write about our motherland, and to the
readers and writers who are ready to work
towards one common goal – ‘Development of India
and Bihar’.
To make a dream come true, we need the faith in
that dream and ourselves that we can change it
to a reality (actually, optimism), sincerity,
intellect and most of all to work towards the
goal of making that dream a reality. And, this
PatnaDaily.Com family has all of this to work
towards this common goal or dream.
Now, when the new Government is trying hard to
develop Bihar, it’s a good time that we also
plan and do something for the development. Few
years back (96 – 99), I was studying at Patna
Women's’ college, and I remember going to slums
and remand homes to teach children. We also
tried to impart other skills like sewing,
stitching, embroidery, craftwork etc to kids and
grownups, and provided daily use items like
clothes etc to the kids, so that they can have
time to study. I was moved by those innocent
faces who deserve good life, and don’t have
that. We felt like doing anything to keep that
hope alive in those innocent eyes, to provide
them the opportunities to make their dreams
realities. Those are the kids which are the
future, if we let that hope die in those hearts,
they will chose a different path of destruction
when they grow up. There are so many NGOs which
are working towards this noble goal.
Now as the citizen of India, and Bihar, it is
our responsibility and our duty to involve
ourselves in the development of India It can be
social development, economical development or
any kind of development, and our involvement can
be of any form. We can devote our time, our
knowledge or we can provide monetary assistance.
We can plan and work according to our plans on
ourselves or we can assist NGOs and other groups
which are sincerely trying to work towards this
goal. So, in short, there are many ways to add
our inputs in growth and development of India
and Bihar, and we should do, what we can do.

Jai ho
Rakhee jee, I am just kidding. It is
nice to see your article, Rakhee jee.
After reading a couple of comments,
I was going to suggest you write an
article. You are a good writer, I
think, and I love reading all the
opinions here, and getting to see
things from a different perspective
sometimes. We all have different
opinions and different experiences
and choices, but after all, we all
are Biharis and we have roots in our
Bihar, no matter where we opt to
live in this world. I am very happy
to see people are writing from all
over the globe: US, Australia, Uk.
Biharis are everywhere. All of them
just wanted one thing, which is
development of Bihar.
Allow me to add something here in
response to your article. We all are
doing something for Bihar on our own
level. Our Bihar and society have
historically been so corrupt, that
we hesitate to give away our money
or anything to any organization or
any other individual because of
credibility issues. We all came from
Bihar, where we have seen how
corruption and crimes are an
expected part
of the landscape. This makes us
dishearted and reluctant to take
that leap of faith that trust
requires. Personally, I do not have
any faith in Bihari Politicians and
their administrations. I was born,
raised and educated in Bihar. My
siblings and parents are still
there, but in my mind, it is Bihar
and corrupt Bihar, at that. I have
had some very bitter experiences and
they will remain with me, whether
Bihar turns into Heaven or not. -

Rakhee Sinha has rightly suggested
that all of us should participate in
the development of the state,
Biharis living outside the state our
country also want to do some thing,
but they have to be careful in
choosing the right channel or
agency. The best thing will be
reaching the help directly, it can
be educating a neighbourhood child,
a hand pump, distributing warm
clothes in winters, support for a
disable child, pacemaker to the
earning member with heart ailment
etc. One can always think of bigger
projects also like a school in the
village. - Vinod Bhanti - Mar.

Many of us staying outside Bihar
crave to do something for Bihar.
However, in most cases we are not
willing to return to Bihar and work.
The next best things to this can be
to support the organizations that
are active in Bihar and are
sincerely doing work in fields of
our interest.
I support one such organization -
"Association for Promotion of
Creative Learning (www.creativelearningpatna.org)",
by volunteering to maintain their
website and help them in any way I
can. This is a nonprofit
organization and working in the
field of education by developing
material, running schools and other
activities. They have a campus now
in rural Danapur (Nargada Village),
where all the activities are
concentrated. Some well meaning
people have donated resources
(including some NRBs) but it is
always the dedicated local effort
that counts. I would request some of
you interested to have a look at
their website and visit them, if you
are in Patna. I am sure once you
know about them you would feel like
helping them. - Prof. Prabhat

Nice to see comments of all. I am a
software engineer presently in a
African country of Ghana. Nice to
hear that the present government is
doing something to uplift Bihar but
can the gundagardi, corruption in
each and every department can be
taken off? If we want to do some
thing for Bihar then let Bihar free
from corruption. A person who is
retired doesn't get his money back
because he has to pay bribe. There
is brain drain from Bihar from last
several years. People of Bihar do
not have place to work in Bihar
whether he is a software engineer,
doctor, taxi driver or else. A
person who stays outside wants to go
to his village but he is scared of
moving freely. Why it is so? Bihar
is a state which has produced large
number of IIT'ans and Administrators
but even after that, we are not in
position to feel proud. - Arvind

Thank you so much Mr. Anwar for your
boosting comment. I just wanted to
voice my feelings. I second you Sir,
it is not easy to give away one's
hard earned money until we have
faith that it will be utilised for
the right purpose. And, as you have
mentioned, ' We all are doing
something for Bihar on our own
level.', so, that is what matters. I
know, many of the members of
PatnaDaily.Com are actively engaged
in this noble work. I respect
PatnaDaily.Com members for being so
sincere and honest. I have read the
nice articles from Mr. Siddarth
Verma, Mr. Chaubey, Mr. Pandey,
yourself and some other writers. The
articles are so inspiring and
enlightening. I had lost almost all
the touch from my India, my Bihar
after leaving the country 6 yrs
back. I had started to forget the
feeling of who I am, where do I
belong, like living in a superfluous
world. The articles from
PatnaDaily.Com writers were like a
mirror to me where I could recognize
myself, a point which made me feel
myself again, it was like a 'Reshi'
- 'jeth ki tapti dhoop se garm
dharti per barish ki pahli boond se
uthne wali mahek' for me. So, I was
compelled to write something that I
truly believe in.
Thank you Mr. Ranjan for adding the
link for the "Association for
Promotion of Creative Learning". It
will be helpful for many readers who
would be looking for the
organizations working for Bihar. -
Rakhee Sinha - Mar. 27, 2006
Rakhee ji, well done! It is
refreshing to read articles from new
contributors. PD has provided us a
great forum to discuss issues
related with Bihar and despite
occasional flare-ups, this remains
the best place for all Biharis to
get together and talk about things
about our state.
It is a good sign to note that more
and more women from Bihar are
participating in this Readers Write
forum and expressing their
viewpoints. This forum lacked
women's perspective and with the
participation of you, Ms. Seema
Jyotishi, and Ms. Padmaja, I hope
more women will follow your suit and
turn this section even a more lively
place where people could debate on
any issue without being
disrespectful to others.
Another thing I wish is we need to
start talking about topics other
than Bihar politics or 'How to
Improve Bihar'. These topics are
fine but every once in a while we
all need a break from serious
discussions. Some lighter topics
like films, music, sports,
child-raising, the way things were
in our colleges - interesting
anecdotes, goof-ups, embarrassing
moments, etc. would also make up for
good, interesting reading.
Let's start with your top-10 all
time Hindi movie, then we all can
share our favorites. PD moderators
can start a new thread if they wish.

I would love to go back to Bihar and
invest my hard earned money there.
Only problem is that I don't feel
safe there. I was there two years
ago with my sons and husband for 4
weeks and it was absolute hell, as
we kept getting threatening
telephone calls and letters
demanding large amount of money or
else they were going to kidnap our
sons. We had to hire private
security as well as having police
security 24/7 for last two weeks of
our holiday. I felt so unsafe and so
very frightened for my sons that I
couldn't wait to come back to
England. Yet, Bihar is supposed to
be my home and I can assure you that
it didn't feel like home at all. I
rather be safe in England than to be
unsafe in my homeland Bihar. -
