In the wake of petitions filed by Shiv Khera and advocate Ashok Kumar Thakur claiming that government's quota policy would divide the country on the basis of caste, Supreme Court’s timely intervention in the polemic quota system is highly commendable. The need of the hour as it was, everybody, whether anti or pro- reservation people must appreciate and welcome this long awaited action from the core of the heart. Unlike two other pillars of county’s democracy, the judiciary has always proved that they do care for the interest of the common people.

I am very glad that SC has put up three cardinal points - basis for granting 27% reservation for OBCs in govt. and higher educational institutions, statistical data of OBCs for availing this policy and govt. modalities for implementation of reservation for the justification of implementing the proposed reservation. With the intention of putting an end to the ongoing stalemate throughout the country, SC while taking up this matter, has asked the govt. to justify the criteria for identifying particular categories as OBCs on the one hand, it has also appealed to the striking doctors and students to drop their agitations in the public interest. Hope SC comes up with the ultimate solution of this problem to the satisfaction of all.
