The
demand of the JD (U) to sack Lalu is as
frivolous as asking the BJP to sack Mr. Advani.
Let us be pragmatic. Without Lalu, there will be
no UPA; and the UPA exists because of Lalu. The
man is like an anchor bolt, removal of which
will bring down the structure called the UPA. He
may be a bad leader in the eyes of his opponents
but he is indispensable to the UPA. The UPA
could remain in existence for full term without
Dr. Manmohan Singh as the P.M. but it cannot
last a minute without Lalu. Therefore, the
opponents of Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav, please learn
to live with him unless you can defeat him at
the ballot boxes. And, don't take him lightly.
He is a master politician who thrives on chaotic
circumstances. People like him change their
colour without regard to principles and
consequences. Don't you know that he was once
the disciple of a great Gandhian like Jaya
Prakash Narain? Did he hesitate to squander the
resources of the State for the benefit of his
friends and relatives? Did he not promote crime
and created a lawless State? Above all, did he
not praise the same emergency that put him in
jail?
Lalu is not an ordinary fellow and you cannot
scare him by your demand of removal. If you
really want him gone, you will have to fight him
tooth and nail to dislodge him from politics. If
you have the courage to do so, then go to the
masses to tell them who really Lalu is and what
he stands for. Leave the luxury of being a Neta.
Be a Sipahi and carry the warrant of the people.
Expose his past shenanigans and present
inactions. If you can impress the mass with your
arguments, probably they can help you achieve
your dreams of politics without Lalu. Until
then, relax and do not waste your time asking
for his removal.

I
fully agree with you. Until the
level of the political awareness of
the people of Bihar is raised to
that level where they can understand
where their own interests lie, the
condition of Bihar cannot be
improved. Even if some way one Lalu
is removed, another would be in the
making. - Shashi Verma, NY - Dec.
