Unveiling
of statues is not so common these days in Patna.
The effigy business is on boom. The
statue-makers are now switching to effigy-making
to meet the raising demand. Some fast moving
items in the effigy business are George Bush,
Musharraf, Greg Chapel and some of our own
political leaders. Patna city administration has
hired some contractors to collect the lost
chappals/shoes from the roads/railway tracks.
These chappals are supplied to the garland
makers. The garland business too, was not doing
well. Of late, not many leaders were visiting
Patna. Thanks to the sensitivity of Patna'ites
to the local, national and global issues, the
business has revived again.
What has Shilpa Shetty got to do with Patna? An
item song in the movie 'Shool' is the only
connection that I could think of. When I first
heard that song, I had guessed that people of
UP-Bihar are so used to being looted, that the
song would not catch their attention at all.
But, I was wrong. Shilpa robbed them of some
hearts.
Patna'ites are Indians after all. How can they
tolerate another Indian being a victim of
racism? We Indians are always against racism and
discrimination, aren't we? Don't we always call
our Bengali/Sardar/Bihari friends by their name?
Do we ever ridicule each other for the hundreds
of accents/cultural practices that we have in
our country? Why should we have any desire to
look 'gora'? Don't we treat Whites and Blacks
the same way? Indians may kill each other in the
name of region, language, caste, religion and
what not, but when it comes to our 'national
honor' on a foreign 'Reality Show', we cannot
let a White Brit (what's-her-name?) to show any
trace of racism against us. Who will stop us
from preaching what we never practice? It’s
democracy.
Some Indians are more English than the
Englishmen themselves. And they have guts to
make fun of our accent? Do we now have to learn
English from them? Are we any less ‘gora’?
Haven't you observed the difficulty our Hindi
film actors have in speaking their mother
tongues (on TV shows)? These Ex-Kings and
Ex-Queens of India go abroad to make some money
and are treated just like any other immigrant
Indian?! The subjects back here have all rights
to protest. As UK watches the 'Reality Show',
India is all set to watch some 'Irony Show'. The
mantra is - What sells, must be sold!

Jha ji,
you stole my thunder by making
comment on protest in Patna over
Shilpa Shetty reality TV brouhaha.
When I saw the pictures of protest
on PD, that's the first thing that
came into my mind. "What has Shilpa
Shetty got to do with Bihar?"
Second, people in Patna (and
elsewhere in India, for that matter)
apparently have a lot of time to
engage in idiotic things like these.
The whole country is divided on
caste and religion lines (Assam
massacre anyone?) and these no-good
people are offended by what happened
on a British reality show.
By the way, what in the world is
Shilpa Shetty doing in a stupid
reality show? Obviously her career
(??) is over in Indian film industry
and she desperately needs money or
attention to remain under media
glare.
I remember seeing a couple of
episodes of US version of Big
Brother a few years ago and found a
majority of these contestants were
nothing but losers in life.
Controversies like this (probably
intentional by the show makers) are
good for ratings and Shilpa should
have known better. - Anil Kumar -

That's exactly right Anil Bhai, and
guess what - yesterday Shilpa
withdrew her complaint about being
racially attacked. Banaaya Naa
