Shiv Shankar Sharma writes (June 3, 2007)

Dear Mr Abhayanad and Mr Anand, I felt very sad after hearing that you people have decided to close down the ‘SUPER 30’ mission because some coaching institute run by criminals have presented three of your trained students as their own students.

I can fully understand why you have decided not to disclose the name. When somebody is working towards humanity without any self interest obviously it will be difficult for him to accept the situation where somebody tries to create doubts about honesty and integrity of his mission. Your mission was without any self interest purely as a service towards humanity and here you find your mission challenged by some greedy and criminal minded people.

I can fully understand the emotional pain it may have caused you but Sir, for those greedy people it may be just do and die for IIT JEE but it was more than that. It was about humanity, it was about patriotism, it was also about sprit to do some good for Bihar without expecting anything in return. Your mission had a positive impact beyond IIT JEE reminding people that yes even in this world humanity exist.

Unless that coaching institute apologise publicly and realize the damage they have done to humanity I fully agree with your decision. OK not IIT JEE but I am sure your generous heart will find some other means to serve the humanity. Sometimes I strongly feel that Government of India should wash off its hands with whole IIT/IIM affair and put them on auction in market for good some of money and invest that money in Government Primary Schools. Due to fierce competition these private coaching institutes are now big business and as per one of the reports in Times of India, this year some of the successful candidates were offered as high as 25 lakh rupees by private coaching institutes to endorse their institutes. I will find it difficult to blame these hard working students if they accept this kind of free money besides getting entry into their dream institute after all if it is OK for BCCI players like Sachin and Dhoni to endorse a product why these bright kids should be denied this opportunity on moral ground. Not only this, according to the same report of Times of India many coaching institutes are sending study material free of cost, without any demand to students enrolled at some reputed institute in the anticipation that if the candidate becomes successful they may claim that he got successful by studying their material. I would advise successful candidates to endorse 100s of such private greedy coaching institutes and mint as much money as you can from them then only they will be discouraged to play such fraud tricks.

Respected Abhayanand jee and Anand jee. Many of us feel the pain and anguish you have felt from the stupid conduct of some of our very own students. Yes it hurts, was unexpected and totally unacceptable.

But we will be even more hurt by the damage they would be able to inflict on future needy aspirants. What you have been able to achieve was exemplary in many ways. Bihar has been short of good news for long and your inspirational story was such a welcome relief. You might be aware that national media loves to negatively stereotype Bihar and in that context your Super30 was such a mood lifter and confidence builder. When the whole nation has been busy in communal and caste debates your Super-30 was a practical alternative to social harmony and way forward.

Yes these students and their "overnight" sponsors have managed to hurt your sentiments and also bring some disrepute to our state. But we will be the real losers when we vacate the ground for them.

Even worse than having bad people at a place is the case when good people vacate the space for evil. Please don't let them succeed in their evil intent.

For the sake of many more of those future Super-30 generations please reconsider your decision. We all earnestly appeal. Biharis across globe and even other societies are shaken by this news and we all feel like crying. Please please don't let these few off track students and money making goons run the show.

Since you both have great love for Physics and Maths. I would just give an example from Physics that "Nature Abhors Vacuum". When you "Vacate" the space, then in a way you are letting "bad air" come in and occupy the empty space. Please don't do that.

This has reference to your news "Super-30 Closes its Door; Hopes of Many Youths Dashed" dated June 3rd 2007.

I would like to send a message to Additional Director General (ADG) Mr. Abhayanand and Mr. Anand Kumar that because of misconduct of few of their successful candidates they should not stop their noble effort and take away dreams of many more unprivileged kids. In any case their mission is not to get publicity out of their project. What other firms have done is totally unethical but closing the doors for those who need their assistance, should not be an option.

I understand it's not PatnaDaily.Com's responsibility to communicate this type of message. But it is everyone's responsibility to convince Mr. Abhayanand and Mr. Anand that he should not stop this project.

Dr. Rajkishore Prasad, Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Japan wrote (June 4, 2007)

The coaching institute for IIT known as Super-30 does not need any special descriptions as it is known beyond the border of our country. The concept of Super 30 was coined and implemented by ADG Abhayanand and Anand Kumar five years ago. Its serious steps and tutoring standard can be imbued from the fact that this year it has been able to make its mission successful around 100%. It was started in 2002 and in that year 18 out 30 admitted students were successful. This ratio went on gradual increase and this year it went around 100%. Of course this marks sustained elevation in tutoring standards by the institute.

However, the sad news is that after achieving success around cent-percent the institute is to face its end. I think anybody will like to have such several institutes in Bihar that can ensure entry of aspirants in IIT and IISER like institutes. The hurting announcement by its initiators namely ADG Abhayanand and Anand Kumar came after some successful students said that they had been being coached by some other institutes too which is against the very basic spirit of the institute. However, it can't be denied that students prefer to take courses at different institutes. It is not very uncommon. So in the war for taking credits, the Super 30 is in trouble. Only the successful candidates can tell the truth and save the institute.

The decision to close Super-30 on such grounds cannot be justified if taken from the view of public interests. Of course the whole drama has been very sad experience to the initiators and against the personal feeling and spirit of the institute. Instead of closing the institute, there should be some corrective steps while admitting students so that after success there should not arise such claims for taking credit.

Let us extend our support to the both initiators of Super-30 and request to continue the institute that has given new face to Bihari students. I hope both of them are full with positive energy and such small things will not deviate them from their mission. It should be kept in mind that running missionary institute like Super-30 will always go against the commercial interests of many other institutes and there can be such claims to gain popularity and attract new aspirants. Of course the whole drama has been bad for the face and spirit of the institute and if Super-30 is closed it will be good news for the conspirators (if any) and bad news for the whole Bihar. On such grand success in mission there should be announcement for the extension or opening of similar new centers. Hope our interests will get consideration and Super-30 will continue.

Respected Mr. Abhayanand and Mr. Anand,

Whatever has happened in last couple of days is certainly a painful incident that hurts the sentiments of honest and noble Gurus like you. As going through different news threads I find that some sort of politics in Patna Police Department has also played its role in making you feel frustrated.

If you are shutting down the Super30 just because of the standard knee-dirt politics of Patna Police Department and few of your qualified students who sold themselves to become quick rich then I will request you to re consider your decision. These kind of pity incidents will always happen no matter how noble your Crusade is. May be those students were lured + pressurized.

Please re consider your decision and stay on course as your Crusade is not complete yet. Please be kind for those smart but poor students who now have a special shine in their eyes, just because of the existence of Super-30.

Prateek Akhoury writes: (June 5, 2007)

Although I empathise with the founders of the Super-30 and understand the pain they must have suffered due to the alledgedly false claims of the few students, however, I believe that their main aim was to do something for the society by sending the students of low economic background to such a prestigious instituition, to which the students could never have made it. Taking this into consideration, they should reopen the super-30 coaching centre and continue with their good work. The past few years are the evidence that they have been successful in their mission, contrary to the statements given by one of the founders. They should not let a few wrong comments come in between such a good work as it will surely be unfair to future Super-30'ites who may prove to be better than anyone else.

Dear Abhayanadji and Mr Anand,

I can understand how hurt you must be feeling. You had a noble mission and you gave your valuable time to these kids and some of them repay you by stabbing you in the back. Everyone is saying you must not close Super-30 and you must continue for the sake of Bihar. Why should few people sacrifice? As if only you both are responsible for welfare of Bihar.
There is no shortage of talent in Bihar. I hope someone else will feel challenged enough and will continue your kind of selfless work and there can be another avenue for these deserving students.

As for Mr Shiv Sharma he can understand that these 3 boys could not resist temptation of money. I can't. Because tomorrow these boys can sell their soul for money and after graduating from IIT, probably they will sell their country. Because there is always temptation. You always have a choice.

If people want so much that Super-30 should continue then instead of asking these two selfless gentlemen to reconsider they should approach our Chief Minister and education minister to expose these coaching institutes which are indulging in such dishonest behaviour. Tomorrow they will teach students to cheat in tests. They should pay some kind of financial penalty. Name of these institution and people behind them should be made public. Although I am sure these kind of people have no shame. Otherwise they would not have resorted to fraud.

As for the three boys, they may have mastered IIT entrance test but they have failed miserably in decent values. But values are taught at home. I can see them tomorrow selling Bihar. As a Bihari, I really feel ashamed that these boys are from Bihar.

Abhayanadji and Anandji, I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do. I congratulate you for all your success. I feel very sorry for your hurt feelings. But you both must do what you feel is the right thing to do. You have worked selflessly to help people and you have our respect, admiration, and gratitude. You should not be emotionally blackmailed by people to continue against your best judgment. You both are best able to decide what has to be done.

Gentlemen, you have done an yeoman service to help the poor and hardworking students. Your efforts have raised the status of Bihar. Please don't get disheartened and accept defeat. I can understand your grief and anguish at the betrayal by those whom you have helped with your time and money. However, life is like that. Please, keep up the good work. Thank you.

Ravish Kumar writes from Hyderabad (June 5, 2007)

Got the sad news of Super-30 closure. After such a long era of darkness and hopelessness, there were some rays of hope for development of Bihar but the destiny has taken away these rays leaving us in the dark again.

I am working at Hyderabad in IT industry for last 2 years. Being a Bihari, It began with facing cruel remarks about Bihari mentality, crime rate, lawlessness, Lalu and fodder scam. The locales might have been divided on all the technical and social issues, but for Bihar they were united and univocally condemning the Bihar and Biharis.

Time went by, but I had to work hard and convince hard to prove them that Biharis are also normal human beings and they also have heart, brain, pain, sorrow, honesty, self-respect etc. etc. After 1.5 years of hard work, now I have won many friends in my company, mostly locales. They have started respecting me especially after I got the technical achievement award last year. In fact, I was one of the three recipients out of 3500 employees.

The day I got the news about Super-30 success through your, sorry, our site, I rushed to my local friends just to show them once again that Bihar is full of positive miracles. I asked each of them to open the web-site and take a look at the great work done by Super-30. For good fortune, the news about Manish Kumar, the CBSE success was also there below the main news. People read it and started thinking "Oh !! Bihar has did it once again !!!". I was satisfied and somewhat proud looking into their wide-open eyes. There was another news of 8 year boy killing 4 people there. I had a lot to cover the killing by saying, "WHATEVER BIHARI DO, THEY DO BIG ! ".

But, the good days are short-spanned as always. Yesterday, all of the local guys came running to me saying "hey Ravish, See the SUPER-30 is closed due to greed of Biharis". I couldn't believe them. I opened the site and read the news. I was disappointed and couldn't face the questioning eyes of my friends. Some of them started laughing about the news saying "Nothing Good Can Sustain In Bihar." I had no answers for them. I went to canteen to avoid them.

The fault was mine. I developed such interest in my friends about Bihar by showing all the good news that they became the regular reader of the site and in fact, they used to open the site early in the morning even before me.

I just want to ask the money-minded institute owners, "Please give me some idea how to convince my friends once again about Bihar!"

Dear Sri Abhyanand ji and Mr. Anand,

I sincerely appreciate your feelings and a sense of rejection.

But just think... who is the loser and who is the gainer in all this episode. The gainer is the unscrupulous coaching institute and your own feelings, sentiments and ego, while the loser is the group of 30. There are parents who can afford lakhs of rupees for coaching but not many to whom you coach who cant afford such expenses.

Just for few unscrupulous people, the noble thing which you all are doing should not be stopped. I appeal to both of you that the service which you are rendering to the society, our state BIHAR and in the larger sense the country should not be stopped. I remember a line from GEETA which says in sanskrit "kuputro jayetah, kuchidapi kumata na bhavati", meaning let the sons be unworthy but the mother never becomes unworthy.

Hope you will rethink your decision.

Ranvijay Sinha writes: (June 5, 2007)

Respected Mr Abhayanadji and Mr Anandji,

It is really sad and unfortunate to read news about closer of Super-30. Your institute made us so proud of being part of the land which otherwise always projected for wrong reason.
Please don't get disheartened as it was never guaranteed that successful students of your institute would prove to be good human being too. Something which they did now which hurt you, could have/had done in future too. Don't deprive the future generation with your supreme gift, where otherwise would be next to impossible for economically hit but bright students, chance to promising career. You should also make sure to get in writing from future aspirants to do something for the less privileged as token of "Thanks" for the service you do for them. Ask them to sign declaration which will forbid them from endorsing any other coaching institute, before you enroll them in your institute( I know these are bit hard to enforce but at least will act be as deterrence).

Do whatever you feel like you think will give you assurance in not getting emotional hurt in future, but please reconsider your decision.

Even I dreamed of running such coaching institute in my village and prepare rural candidates to excel in IIT. Few years later, I heard of your initiatives and tears broke out of my eyes. It was as if all like minded Biharis dream came true through you.

Now, by closing down the institute, you broke us again, but negatively. By, enforcing drastic decision for such a small matter, you have proved the world the typical mentality most Biharis are renowned for. Come on!! You are an ADG! And you accepted defeat, but from whom? The three 18-years teenagers! They might have reason to do so, as I heard they were coached by others before joining your one. So, other coaching institutes may claim their due, although they coached for small period, but the purpose was same, the IIT. However, morally, it is wrong and mature persons can understand it, but we cannot accept the same from teenagers.

Instead of taking extreme step, you should have planned some measures so that members of next batch should not repeat the same.

History proves that all noble initiatives faced hurdles but who managed to walk on line of fire achieved goals, whether he is Budhha, Gandhi, Ambedkar or Mandela.

By closing the institute, you let Thackeray to blow Maratha Bigul of win as Biharis will have little chance to join IIT Bombay. Shiela Dixit will do Balle Balle Bhangra as Biharis will have little presence in IIT Delhi. Tarun Gogoi will do Bihu with ULFA as IIT Guwahati will be deprived of Biharis.

Mr. Abhayanand and Anand Kumar, I feel sorry to see your ego/emotion is taking precedence over future of Bihar. If a person of ADG level surrendered his ambition to circumstances, what can one expect from other civilian persons?

Just, I like to add few words for Mr. Ravish Kumar. Try to avoid discussion on Bihar with your colleagues, better be reserve and concentrate on your work. Even, I had similar/worse experience at the start of my career, but I learned how to deal with these matters. Now I neither discuss bad nor good news about Bihar with others. Just follow the logic of chup hazaar sukh.

Shri Abhayanand Jii and Anand Jii,

Sadar Pranaam

You are enlightened enough to assess the gravity of the situation which must have shaken your morals. So might be the Japanese film maker who would be making a film and might review the script and add to the melodrama in academics prevailing in the heart land of our country. This is everyone's story who are dedicated to do something for the country and the people and the agony they have experienced is inexpressible.

Degrees/diplomas/certificates are available in the market and the dons and mafia are active in selling these. Then, a very small questions… have their shops been closed down? Still, the steering wheel of the society is not in the hands of those filthy and anti-social elements. Though small in number but only dedicated and devout run the society. Because truth prevails and no earthly power can defeat it. Super-30 is a voyage and a mission to the world of knowledge and this journey got started by you. Let the seekers of knowledge flourish and spark particularly those who are deprived of financial support. Education to anyone is a liberating force and never a disappointment to any extent. Money can never buy knowledge. It’s a universal fact. Let us realize this.

I wish and pray that ‘Super-30’ the pride of Bihar will restart its noble journey soon.

I am a film maker from Mumbai and belong to Patna. Super-30 is an institute par excellence. Not only students but film maker like me are also inspired by it and its cause.

My film which is a full length feature revolves around Super-30. I keenly urge Mr. Abhayanand and Mr. Anand Kumar to resume the mission SUPER-30. We Biharis are proud of our students who excel in education, bodies like Super-30 have the responsibility to take not only students but our state on the height of success.
