My
sincere sympathy to the
family of Inspector Shashi Shekhar and to
all the policemen who served with and for him.
It is a tragic that these events occur so often
in our society today. Policemen are the people's
hope for stability and safety world over.
PS: If it wouldn't be too much to ask, please
use the word policemen instead of cop in your
future articles in order to respect the honor of
those brave men and women.

I really appreciate the encouraging
words of Mr. Ronald Harrison. I am
impressed by his positive attitude
and by his concern for people half a
globe away. I would like to add that
many people in societies world over
are cynical about policemen and
other agencies entrusted with the
job of controlling crime. Such
cynical people would not like to
step up and take on a challenging
assignment themselves but would
rather work in positions of low
risk, sit back and criticize the
brave people who put their lives at
risk for the betterment of the
society.
While I am not against constructive
criticism, I am certainly against
generalizations leading to cynicism.
Some policemen may not be very smart
in their appearance or in the way
they talk, there may be a few
corrupt people in the police force
too. However, need we paint the
whole force black and turn cynical.
My question to all cynical people is
that while some of the policemen in
your respective countries may not be
up to your expectations but can you
imagine what the society you live in
would have been had their been no
police force? It is thanks to these
brave people that some semblance of
social order is maintained. -
