The slogan of Mr. Paswan to include upper caste people in the reserve category seems to be a ploy to muster votes similar to what Mayawati did in the Utter Pradesh. The upper caste people in UP wanted to have their say in ruling the government and they cajoled the lady by voting for her. Of course, she is the head of the government but look who runs the machinery. Such a politics is abusive and casts aspersions on the motives of the promoter. It should never be practiced in a democratic society. As far as reservation is concerned, it should be abolished completely. However, a paradigm should be established to help the needy people irrespective of their caste and creed in all walks of life. Actually, to form a new society in Bihar, Mr. Paswan could be a voice for change. He could promise good educational opportunities and fairness to bring parity, not another cumbersome and unworkable plan. The omnipresence of crime, favouritism, bribery and theft in office are some of the malaise of our society. Uproot them first before talking about the progress of Bihar.

Comments:
Our politicians seem to be unable to think beyond reservation. What has reservation done for SC/ST in 60 years or for that matter anybody. Just think about it, reservation supposedly is a crutch provided to the weaker section of society so that they become strong enough to be able to stand on their own feet and thereby not need this reservation crutch in future. It was for a reason that provision of its review every ten year was promulgated in the constitution. In 60 years not even a single community has gotten the benefit and declared itself strong enough to stand on its own. Quite contrary to that more and more community have been added to this crutch-need group. Moral of the story, this tool is not working. Think of something else you intellectually bankrupt politicos.

Open dedicated schools for weaker section and religiously look for the progress report of these institutes every year. Everything else will fall in place.

PS: In my village that comprises of at least 25% of SC/ST population am yet to see even a single beneficiary of this 60 year old reservation crutch. - Dr Anil Kumar - Nov. 21, 2007

Just another political opportunism on the part of Paswan and nothing else. - Satya - Nov. 21, 2007

Caste system has crippled our society from years. It has been beautifully preserved by our politicians in order to survive. When ever they realise that they need fresh issue to survives in politics , they come out with caste agenda. It is a high time that people of all class to come forward and let the politicians know that they are not going to survive on the basis of caste politics. It is a high time to abolish these things in order to grow Bihar and India.

Help in education should be provided to poor people. Government must help the families who are not able to support their children for education and force them for child labour. Government should help them to learn 'how to fish rather than to give a fish'.

Help and reservation should be provided not on the basis of caste but on the basis of financial position. One poor family should be given one or two coupon which they can use for only up to 2 children in applying for reservation. - Manish Kumar - Nov. 21, 2007
