Water-logging in Patna

So the monsoons have done it again and the PMC is running for cover! The unprecedented heavy rainfalls have converted the roads and localities of Patna into a floating myriad of garbage, filth and remains of what, a normal civilised and clean society does not wish to live with. What surprises me is that this scenario keeps haunting us year after year and still the Municipal Corporation fails to learn from its mistakes.

The government and the municipal corporation apart, I believe the people of Patna are to be held equally responsible for their misery. We seem to have developed a mentality of just sitting back, and blaming the government for all our tragedies, when at the back of our mind (hopefully!!) we know that remedial measures taken by us, would have prevented such wide scale water logging.

The continuous use of polythene, our habit of littering our neighbouring areas, the hospital wastes thrown on the road etc all go on to aggravate this situation. Had we learnt from our mistakes, we would have incorporated better means to dispose off the garbage and thus not clogged the sewer systems!! I know I might be ostracised for speaking my mind, when all of us are blaming the government, but I believe its high time we accept our own mistakes and learn from them. While the other states have progressed rapidly over the years, ours has deteriorated instead.

I sincerely hope that the government and the people, both realise that it's high time, our mentality and living style was done away with for a better tomorrow. Both should work hand in hand, accept our responsibilities and duties so that these nightmares NEVER return to haunt us again, because they say "It takes two to tango!!".
