India Science Teachers' Association, Bihar,
condoles the sudden demise of Dr. M. M. Jha,
Principal Secretary, Deptt. of Education, Bihar.
It is a great loss for the school education of
Bihar. By the death of Dr. Jha, a great vacuum
is created in the field of education which will
not be filled in the near future.
AISTA express its sorrow to the family members
of Dr. Jha.
Rabindra Prasad Sinha, General Secretary,
AISTA, Bihar - Sept. 8, 2007
I was shocked
to see the news of the sudden demise of Sri
Madan Mohan Jha, a charismatic bureaucrat and a
true educationist of Bihar. His demise is a
great loss to Bihar. I express my deep
condolence to his bereaved family.
He will be remembered for his contribution
towards revamping education system in Bihar. The
establishment of many institutes of higher
education and mass level appointment of primary
teachers in a record time were an example of his
excellence under his able leadership. The
implementation of "Common School System" was a
unique example for the whole nation.
The time when Bihar is in the process of
revamping its education system, his presence was
required.
If Bihar comes out of educational anarchy and
retain its past glory, the contribution of this
patriot will be remembered with a sense of
pride.
May god give peace to his soul!

The Bihar
Foundation wish to express their deep sorrow at
the sudden death of Dr. Madan Mohan Jha, our
friend and colleague for many years. He was
Commissioner and Secretary for Education in the
State of Bihar. Madan Jha had embarked on a
vigorous and idealist programme for designing
and implementing plans for restructuring Bihar
's educational system, with a view to ensuring
the fundamental rights to education for all
children, within a framework of inclusive
education for all.
Madan Jha was a member of the Indian Civil
Service, and an internationally renowned
scholar. He was the author of the influential
book School Without Walls, published in Oxford,
England by Heinemann in 2002, and an editor and
contributor to International Perspectives on
Educational Diversity and Inclusion: Studies
from America, Europe and India, published by
Routledge of London in 2007. He obtained his
doctorate from the prestigious University of
Oxford in 2006, and part of that thesis is
published in the edited book Challenges for
Inclusion: Studies from Britain and The Indian
Sub-Continent, published by Sense Publishers of
Rotterdam in 2007.
Madan Jha was not only a noted scholar but also
a vigorous reformer, and his death is an
inevitable setback for his ambitious plans to
reform Bihar's educational system.
