Much has been written and much will be written pertaining to Ram Sethu. While it is difficult to conclude (if not impossible) as to the precise origin of this structure, any person with a scientific bent of mind will not rule out the possibility that it could be man-made. As is well established that satellite images not only indicate clearly that a continuous structure (though significantly submerged) exists bridging Dhanushkodi, the southern tip of India and Talaimannar, the northern tip of Sri Lanka but also the distance it covers is close to being the shortest between these two points. Clearly if this was purely a tectonic or related phenomenon, the possibility of this link taking the shortest route between these two points would be rather remote. Moreover, it is indeed a grave error to refer to Ram Sethu as the Adam's Bridge as this is a recent name given to it and is surely alien in origin. The concept of Adam (which exists in Judaism, Christianity and Islam) is non-existent in Hinduism and Buddhism.

It is also unfortunate that some people in India have come up with a conjecture that Lord Ram did not exist. Clearly the sole purpose of these people is to obtain political mileage via such statements. This sets a bad precedent as next the other divine personalities such Moses, Buddha, Zarthusthra, Jesus, Mohammad or even Guru Nanak Dev could be targeted by similar elements in order to obtain political benefits.

The legend of Ram is well known not only in India but in many parts of Asia (by word of the mouth, scriptures, etc.) for several millennia. Besides almost every region of India has places named after Lord Ram. For example Rameshwaram, Rampur, Ramnagar, etc. Thus to dismiss the notion that Lord Ram did exist and to conclude that Ram is a shear creation of imagination is rather ludicrous.

Finally, while Hinduism not only respects all religions but also accepts all religions as true it must, however, be pointed out that Hinduism is also a time-tested way of life which has survived mainly due to its ability to fight back when goaded.

Comments:
It is indeed rather unfortunate to hear about current anti-Ram views. In science, if you cannot prove something, you have to come up with a concrete alternative hypothesis to disprove it. In case of Ram setu, same principle applies. None of the authorized scientific community has neither disprove nor approve its existence, in this scenario, then everybody must have to wait till further more substantial evidence can be produced against its existence. In the meantime, it is not very difficult to guess why some communities (both at national and international level) are trying their best to demolish this structure as existence of Hinduism is a great competition to other dominating religions worldwide. I am not a fanatic about my own religion, but I have an intellectual human mind to decipher the meaning between right and wrong. - Ashutosh Niraj, MD, Detroit, MI, USA - Sept. 30, 2007

According to Supreme Court’s definition, “Hinduism” is a way of life; ordered and disordered Supreme court forgot to define. Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Venkateswara, Goddess Durga … what true Hindu people believe, represent ordered form of life. Unfortunately, frustrating chaos, mob violence, intolerance, dissatisfaction, greed…of today represent disordered way of life, Bhasmasur, Mahisasur, Tarkasur, Ravan-asur were the known examples with no scientific proof (I am sorry for that). These two forms of Hinduism have/had constantly been engaged in humiliating each other. In other words, Hinduism believes in self-humiliation and self-flagellation in one form or the other. For the past 800 years a few of us including great poets Tulsidas, Surdas, Tenali Ramakrishna, Namdev, Bankim Chandra… had/have been struggling to find answers of self-humiliation. While cracking abusive jokes on Lord Ram, Krishna or Hanuman and almost all God/Goddess are still going unabated, attack on ordered way of life will add another feather of “advanced secular credential” in your cap (resume). Recent utterances on Lord Ram by some dissatisfied and greedy people of present Hindu origin (according to census 2001) holding high seat of power show that how far one can go to humiliate ourselves. “God” bless Hindutva. If ordered form of Hinduism is directly or indirectly related to weakness of within, then let Hinduism die in the hands of Karunanidhi and his like. We have no right to call ourselves weak but Hindus.

Defaming Indian Gods no better than modern creation of “Harry Potter” is nothing but sinking contravention of a Hindu way of life. - Dr. Sudhir Ranjan, USA - Sept. 30, 2007
