Eye Care in Bihar

By Ajit Sinha

The health care in the field of eye care is most neglected in Bihar. The number of eye specialists well trained in ophthalmology are very few. Those with post-graduate training have no confidence to treat eye patients independently. They feel shy in referring the patients to few qualified ophthalmologists within the state. They refer their patients to AIIMS-Delhi or Chennai. This is beyond reach for most of the patients and they keep lingering here and there ultimately losing their sight as a result of poverty. The local ophthalmologists should consult through internet about good centers in Bihar for treatment within the means of the poor patients.

Comments:
If I am thinking of the same Dr Ajit Sinha who was in Nalanda Medical College, I then have to say:

1. He is probably one of the best ophthalmologists we have in Bihar
2. I would like to see:
a. The Bihar Ophthalmologic Society to talk with the Govt and arrange structured training for Post Grads in Ophthalmology especially after they have attained the PG degree and then regular refresher courses.
b. Yearly or two-yearly appraisals by colleagues to see each others current knowledge and advise means to improve .

This in my opinion will be good medical practice. I know I have said to involve the Government but WHO WILL BELL THIS CAT??? - Dr. Murli Sinha, Pleck Health Centre, 16 Oxford Street, Walsall - Aug. 27, 2008
