Red Tape over Emotions

I feel very dejected as I can not pursue my plan. I am a Bihari by birth and was in Patna in 1933. I have not visited Patna for the last 54 years! I wanted to go down the memory lane and celebrate my 75th birthday in Patna but I have been refused visa to India as before settling in Britain and having British nationality for last 20 years plus my parents migrated to Pakistan where from I came to England and has therefore a Pakistan origin card which facilitates my visit to Pakistan without a visa. Now the Indian Deputy High Commission in Birmingham has refused visa to me though they had given me visa on two occasions earlier but that I could not avail because of my dear wife, who also was a Bihari from Gaya, was very seriously ill in 2003, 04 , 05 and 06 and who passed away in Dec 2006.

I am so sad that I cannot visit my ancestral home and the school where I had my early education and where I had so many sweet memories. Thanks anyhow for the cruel hands of the Indo-Pakistan politics which does not recognise any sentiments of love and affection.

I hope Indian High Commission grants a visa. I wish him best of luck. - M Nauman Khan - Aug. 15, 2008
