Mr. Communist is Mr. Misguided

Mr. Dipankar Bhattacharya is a good communist but he is a misguided one. He advocates many things of which none is in people's interest. He leads the organization that preaches violence and encourages the rank and file to get killed to prove a point. Overall, Mr. Bhattacharya is the merchant of antiquated philosophy. Nonetheless, he is a charismatic person. I admire him for being the mouthpiece of the poor and the plebeians but the redundancy of obsolete ideas disarms his brilliance, overshadows his intellect and brings out his prejudices.

Take for example his opposition to the N. Treaty with the USA. The treaty is for energy generation without any string attached. It will also provide our engineers and scientists much needed knowledge of nuclear technology to improve their capabilities. Most of the world is banking on clean and cheap energy for rapid progress. So is India. Only the communists of India say that the treaty is bad. They fail however to compare the progress of China, which is more due to nuclear energy than fossil fuel. France produces 80% of its energy through nuclear power. Perhaps Mr. Bhattacharya knows that coal is a dirty source of energy, petroleum is too expensive and alternative sources of energy are too far in the future. The only constant source of power is nuclear energy and its technology is in the hands of just a few countries. The USA is the foremost country which has the best technology.

As far I can see, the opposition of nuclear treaty with the USA is not based on facts. It is based on personal hatred of Mr. Bhattacharya. He is predisposed that anything American is unacceptable to him and he uses dead metaphors like surrendering the sovereignty of India or succumbing to imperialism to support it. When he talks about India/s sovereignty, he does not take into accout India's purchase of inferior quality of nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers from Russia because they his masters.

May I invite Mr. Bhattacharya to come to the USA and see for himself what this country is like? I will even make arrangements to meet with the communists of the USA. They may not change his mind but they would at least enlighten him.

As far as taking the issue to the people, go ahead and waste your efforts. However, please do it peacefully. Do not encourage violence like burning buses and railway stations. Let the people know that you are opposing electricity. Tell them that the USA is ready to give it to India but you do not want it because it is an imperialist nation. If you really succeed I will surrender my ancestral Gandhi cap.
