Satellite Township Needed in Patna

By Nitesh Ambuj

A satellite city near Patna is a demand of time now. The state government should look into this as it can speed up the process of bringing back NRBs (Non-resident Biharis).

A satellite town or satellite city is a concept of urban planning. Many metropolis or big cities go for a satellite township to expand the city and to provide some better residential / commercial areas to its citizen. In India if you look into Chandigarh, Panchkula, Gandhinagar or Salt Lake in Kolkata you will find that these areas are well developed and provides a better scope for city to grow.

If you look through Google Earth you will find that there’s a huge scope in the South and West side of Patna. Government can plan out some Express Ways to connect west to South and South to East. A circular road can also be a solution. Danapur to Naubatpur and from Naubatpur to Fatuha can be one option to think. Once the plan is drafted there would be lots of private invest for developing the township.

I hope to see some action on this.

It is an excellent idea. A good township with good and secure residential complexes, with all modern amenities like standby power, own water supply, security, a shopping complex nearby and good road connection with main city, railhead and airport will attract many Non-Resident Biharis from abroad and also those trying to settle down in other cities of India for getting good civic amenities.

Many Biharis who have gone elsewhere in search of livelihood can settle down in their home state. This will bring wealth into the state which will create jobs in providing services and benefits will trickle down residents of state.

Many of such people may contribute their talent, time and money in social development and upliftment of society.

Yes Ambuj, you are correct, this would help the growth in a planned manner.

I am sure they have thought of institutional area in and around Khagaul because I saw lot of schools, colleges and other institutions coming on route to Bihta via Khagaul passing thru Shivala in my recent trip.

I guess Bihta would be one of the satellite township which is developing.

I wonder if the Govt has planned properly for this. Another recent news I read on PatnaDaily was IIT shifted to Amhara which is at a distance from Bihta. In that case the road from Anisabad-Khagaul-Shivala-Naubatpur-Bikram-Amhara should be widened.

It would be a better direct approach road to IIT.

I saw it was being repaired and was a relief this time to drive on despite a rough stretch.

Another route already being widened was Anisabad-Khagaul-Shivala-Bihta. This would be little worrisome road to reach IIT but would benefit institutions coming on this stretch and be an Ideal base for the satellite town between Patna and Bihta.

If timely measures are not taken to develop Bihta properly allocating residential, industrial, IT park, and institutional area seperately, it could be a disaster.

The present bypass from Anisabad to Fatuha cannot be termed as a Bypass now which is Part of NH31.

A ring road kind of stretch is required for heavy vehicles not destined to Patna but going to Fatwa, Rajgir, Barh and connect it to NH31.

And what better suggestion from you, this stretch connecting Bihta to Fatwa (NH31).

A bridging road is a solution between NH98 (Patna-Naubatpur-Bikram to connect NH31 from the outer periphery.

NH98 being extended from either Naubatpur or Khagaul connecting NH31 at Deedarganj will solve the purpose.

It would solve two purposes, would develop two satellite townships - one being Bihta and Fatwa is already a potential industrial area.

Both would work wonders due to this connectivity and result in more commercial/business activity generating more revenues for the government and employment.

Bihta can be developed like Gurgaon (mix of IT, institutional and industrial) and Fatuha like Faridabad (primarily industrial).

I hope the Bihar government would look into this. - Amarendra Kumar - June 7, 2008

I hope Bihar Government is listening all this suggestion. - Shafique Ahmad, KSA - June 10, 2008
